International project filled with wisdom and sunshine irony

KYRGYZSTAN (CENTRAL ASIA). Post-production of Kazakh-Kyrgyz-German-French melodrama The Song Of Southern Seas has been started in Germany.

It’s a touching ironic feature directed by a prominent Kyrgiz film director Marat Sarulu. It presents a universal story with deep wisdom and sunshine humor: mixed marriages, family bounds, power of love, poison of jealousy, voice of ancestors, adults and kids.

…Two families – Russian and Kyrgyz – live in a distant village. They are sort of rough diamonds, tough and strong. They have to survive and always ready to help each other. All of a sudden men become enemies: each of their newly born kid suspiciously looks and start to behave like the other neighbor.…

“All we need is wisdom, understanding and humor to find a common language,” says director Sarulu. “Besides, it’s very important to remember who your ancestors were – to have immunity against racial conflicts.”

Marat Sarulu combines highly visual cinematography with deep philosophy. He has won many international film awards with his very special film with Oriental touch like My Brother, Silk Way or Stormy River, Quiet Sea (In Spe) etc.

He is at his prime partially thanks to 20-year-long cooperation with his close friend and a seasoned Kazakh producer Sain Gabdullin.

The film was shot in amazingly fascinating valleys of Issyk Kul Lake (Kyrgyzstan).
