Alexei Uchitel. The Edge
Los-Angeles. January 16, 2011. First, Good News: Samuel Goldwyn Films acquired all U.S. distribution rights to Russia’s The Edge.
The deal was inked by Goldwyn president Meyer Gottlieb and Sergei Bespalov, president of Sun Rise Films. The film has been set for a theatrically release this spring. It is also an entry for Academy Award Best Foreign Language Film.

The love adventure The Edge is directed by Alexey Uchitel, script by Alexander Gonorovsky, producers Konstantin Ernst, Alexander Maksimov, Igor Simonov, Alexey Uchitel. It unfolds a love-and-survival drama in a Siberian GULAG shortly after the end of World War II between a decorated war hero (Vladimir Mashkov), who is torn between his railway steam engine obsession and Siberian woman (Yulia Persils)or a mysterious German girl (Anjorka Strechel).
The Edge premiered at Toronto and Palm Springs International Film Festivals.
Bad News: On Sunday, January 15 The Edge, Russia’s submission for the Golden Globe among foreign-language films was outsmarted by In A Better World (Denmark), which means the film has a slim chance to win Academy Award.
